Its no mystery to me
Exit Stencil Recordings makes me happy. First, I discovered Hot Cha Cha. Second, came the Dreadful Yawns. And now, there’s Mystery of Two.
I just got my hands on their latest release, Gravity, which is a two song single (with Strange Town on the flip side). Excellent tracks and if this is a taste of what’s to come from their next CD (that’s what I’m told), it should be a good one. Gravity reminds me of early Talking Heads when the Heads still had a hard edge (no slight to their later work). Strange Town actually reminds me of the Velvet Underground, but there is some Sonic Youth overtones in there as well.
For those of you who are lucky enough to be attending CMJ in October, go by and give this group a listen (actually give all three groups a listen because they will all be there)… while I’m stuck in Charlotte at a trade show. Oh, well.
