Arthur C Clarke

Sir Arthur passed away yesterday.  He was a great figure in science and science fiction.  I’ve lost count of the number of his books I read (there all stored in boxes now) and on one of my early web site iterations I had a tribute page (back when that was the thing to do).

Anyway, I have to give Sir Arthur credit because his writing is what started me down the path of reading.  One Sunday in college a handful of us gathered around our little 13″ black and white TV to watch  2001: A Space Oddessy. None of us had seen it, so it was rather amazing (and confusing).  The movie left me with a lot of unanswered questions (like what the hell happened to Dave at the end?) so I decided to see if there was a novel.  Sure enough there was.  And a companion novel.  And from there I started reading other Clarke works and then eventually expanded out into other genres.  I pretty much haven’t quit reading since.

Sir Arthur, you are going to be missed.
