What might have been

I look at things like this, shake my head and wonder what might have been.  Instead of the shit we have in office, we would have had someone who actually gives a damn about the environment… someone who cares about people… someone with some brains in head (and not where he sits).  I often wonder how long its going to take this country to recover from the lies, losses and disasters of the present administration.  Years?  Decades?  Hard to say, but in years to come people will look back at generation and ask “What the hell were people thinking we they elected Bush?”

  1. I have two comments on this.

First, if you really want to dream, imagine what position we’d be in if we had a leader that had said after 9/11, ‘Americans, this act of terrorism was committed by and funded by the oil rich nations of the world. We must strike back with vengeance. We must develop alternate energy sources. We must do everything in our power to reduce world demand for oil so that the entire middle east can slip back into the obscurity it so richly deserves. I ask all Americans to conserve energy at every opportunity. I am immediately canceling all subsidies to oil companies and am instead funding clean renewable energy sources. Americans, please do your patriotic duty. Conserve energy. Buy fuel efficient vehicles and energy star appliances and compact fluorescent light bulbs. ….’

I’m sure you can fill in the rest of what could have been a wonderful historic speech.

My second point is much shorter. By the time historians are discussing this era in history, it will be well known that we didn’t elect Bush. Of course this assumes humanity will live long enough to gain an historical perspective on the situation.

  2. Good point about the “election of Bush”.
